Tamara Richardson is from North Springfield, VT and became a Champion on March 20th, 2012 when she made the pledge to live, share, model and inspire the Healthy Monadnock 2020 initiative. Tamara is the VP and Human Resource Officer atOrganizational Champion, Savings Bank of Walpole (SBW).
Tamara became a Champion because of her passion for a healthier work environment for herself and fellow employees at Savings Bank of Walpole and shortly after, worked with HM2020 to become an Organizational Champions. Over the past few years, Tamara in her work role as the HR Officer, has truly championed the idea of employee wellness at her organization. She says “she wanted to be involved in this ‘interesting sounding group/idea’ and share the great healthy programs that we were already doing at the Bank, but more importantly, to help Healthy Monadnock 2020 (Vision 2020 at the time) spread the word about this wonderful initiative to promote a healthier community in the Monadnock region.”
In her role at Savings Bank of Walpole, Tamara has made great strides in helping improve the health of the Monadnock region both at her place of work, but also in her community. “I work to improve my community’s health by organizing health and wellness activities at the Bank for all the employees to participate in and also promote and support other community events by spreading the word to our staff so that they may join in and support Healthy Monadnock 2020 outside of the workplace as well.” Most recently, Tamara and her staff participated in Organizational Champion, Cheshire Medical Center Dartmouth Hitchcock Keene’s 7th annual Sports Medicine 5K, running and walking for better health and supporting a local community event.
Tamara shared that currently, SBW is in the beginning of their annual Walking/Run Challenge and this year the employees are virtually walking across Europe! “We provided pedometers to those who needed one and make teams of employees”, shares Tamara. “We have asked employees to submit pictures showing where they have been walking. This has been one of our most popular employee events that we do, other than the most popular ‘Fruity Friday program’ last fall, where we partnered with Alyson’s Orchards in Walpole to deliver fresh fruit each week from their orchards to each of our branches for 4 weeks. We had peaches, plums and apples every Friday for staff to snack on!”
After joining as a Champion herself and getting her organization on board as a Healthy Monadnock Organizational Champion, Tamara feels the real impact of the Champions program. “I have seenmore and more organizations join over the years and this truly shows the impact of spreading the word and getting everyone involved, at all levels, to live a healthier lifestyle and promote healthier choices.”
