Healthy Shout Out: Carl Dockum of True North Networks

Categories: Champion Moment

Carl was recently nominated for a Healthy Shout Out by his True North Network coworker, Kelsey Plifka. We are inspired by Carl’s strait-forward and honest approach to healthy living – and we are very sorry we missed his rendition of “Livin’ on a Prayer.”

Kelsey writes, “We have just finished a 4 week wellness challenge, challenging not only ourselves to eat better and move more, but have also challenged Badger Balm. At the end of 4 weeks, Carl has created many healthy habits that have stuck, become more motivated to be healthier and has lost 8 lbs! We, as a company, have decided to keep going with the challenge and make it a year round event.

Name:  Carl Dockum

Job or business: IT Engineer at True North Networks

What song do you sing in the shower?  I don’t sing in the shower, but the last time I sang in public, it was Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ On A Prayer”.  I was a bit hoarse the next day, so you know I was committed to it.

Everything in moderation…. What was your last guilty pleasure?  A dish of ice cream on the last day of our 4-week Wellness Challenge.

Best things to eat for breakfast?  Cheerios with some fruit on top.  Sliced bananas are my favorite topping.

Imagine it’s a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Where are you and what are you up to?  I would probably be mowing my lawn then reading the paper in the shade afterwards.

September is a month when many children will be going back to school. What were your favorite games or sports when you were in grade school?  Kickball, hide and seek.

What Healthy Monadnock project are you most excited about?   Worksite Wellness.  We just finished a challenge that got almost everyone involved.

Why should your friends reading this “like” the HM Facebook page – and or sign up to be a Champion?  I didn’t expect to lose any weight when I started the Wellness Challenge.  I joined in to be part of the team effort and ended up losing 8 pounds.  If I could do that, anyone can.

What’s your next healthiest step?  Try to keep the same habits that I just formed over the past 4 weeks.
