Eight more Monadnock Region businesses and organizations have made commitments to make their workplaces healthier for employees. These organizations make the total number of Healthy Monadnock Organizational Champions to 165.
The newest Healthy Monadnock Organizational Champions that have joined in the third quarter of the year, from July 1 to Sept. 30, 2016, include:
Alec Doyle, executive director of The Colonial Theatre in Keene, which was recently recognized as the “Organizational Champion of the Month” for October, says that becoming an Organizational Champion with Healthy Monadnock is important not only for the employees of the organization, but its customers and the community at large.
As part of its Organizational Champion initiatives, The Colonial Theatre has replaced the popcorn in its concession stand with organic and non-GMO popcorn and oil, purchased locally at the Monadnock Food Co-op in Keene. The theatre has also designated itself as a smoke-free zone. Alec Doyle says that it’s important for Organizational Champions to truly become leaders of health in the community and workplace and to “walk to the walk.”
To become a Healthy Monadnock Organizational Champion, an organization must pledge (and draw up a plan) to create a healthier environment in the workplace, which could range from a creating smoke-free campus, offering “walking meetings,” to providing designated areas for employees to breastfeed their babies.
The program, free of charge, provides help and guidance for creating a healthy workplace. It also gives organizations and businesses recognition for their efforts, and hosts healthy living networking events.
